Are you involved in any ministries in church? How do you balance that with other stuff in your life?
My husband and I used to be involved in the youth ministry at church. We were helpers for the youth pastor (called Shepherds). As our family grew, though, it was more and more difficult to continue with that. I’d love to get back into that someday.
What I currently miss most is being a part of the drama ministry at church. But with 3 church services each weekend (not to mention the time to memorize and practice the dramas), this ministry takes quite a bit of time. I also look forward to helping with music at church again.
Maybe when 8 mo is a bit older my husband won’t be so overwhelmed (understandably, he’s not too keen about being outnumbered) and I’ll be able to pick a way to be involved again.

I too have asked myself how to be more involved at church. Currently we lead a small group (although not thru the summer), serve as elder and elders wife, and I have nursery duty once or twice a month. Sometimes I want to be part of the music ministry but I'm not sure if I'm good enough for it and also the three service thing is hard.
I just joined a team of women who are trying to figure out what women's ministry should look like at our church. Karen we have our first meeting on tuesday at 3pm and would love your imput. I'm excited about it because we are going to try to have something for every one and it won't be too crazy as far as time committment. Also they try hard to work around baby schedules. The nursery and rockykids also is in desperate need of more teachers so i just signed up to do it more often. Karen you are wonderful with kids maybe you could teach the pre k or something once a month. I loved teaching the kids but now with Levi I feel more useful in the nursery. And since there are more services I don't usually miss out on the sermons very often, sometimes I get the CD and listen to it in the car.
Just some ideas..
We are part of a small church so there isn't always someone else to do the work of the church so we always help out when we can. Our children are usually welcome so they are a part of what is going on too, whether that means playing during worship practice or helping decorate the church for Christmas. I teach in the Sunday School for the kids every other week so I'm right there with them and play on the worship team several services a month. That is probably the most challenging part of church involvement because Brian has all three kids to get ready for church and watch during the service. One thing that has really helped is training them to sit still and quiet. And for the 30 minutes of worship music they have learned to occupy themselves quietly quite well without disturbing anyone- I'm always proud of them.
I am not involved in anything right now. I gave up the music and children’s ministries when I was about 6 months pregnant. I want to at least get back in to the music but we will see. This fall I am going to be leading the music portion of CBS (Community Bible Study) for both the adults and children. It means some extra time commitment during the week but I’m going to give it a try. I worry about Mac b/c she will be a childcare setting, at the church, for 2 hours each on Monday and Tuesday. It makes me a little anxious b/c she is such a Mama’s girl and has big time separation anxiety. I keep waiting for it to get better! She’s okay after about 5 mins of screaming but it makes me feel awful! I know she will be fine but it so hard anyway…
