Green

How GREEN are you? Do you make your own cleaning supplies? Do you use cloth diapers? Do you make your own diaper wipes? Is "being green" important to you?

I thought "green" referred to being brand new to something -- like a green horse is one that's unbroken. Hmmm...see how the world keeps changing things?!

I guess I don't really care about the whole "being green" thing. But it sure is EVERYWHERE!!

I'm not trying to be disrespectful or anything. But at this stage of life, convenience sure makes things doable around here!

Just curious where everyone else stands with those whole "green" thing.

ummm i think it has its place and theres a lot more I'd do if it was cost effective...unfortunately when a budget is tight, when the 'green' cleaner is double the price of the 'store' brand...well money wins! Now after saying that, there are somethings that I do that are 'home' rememdies type thing and not use a cleaner at all...i.e. using baking (bicarbonate) soda to scrub the sink and stove top etc, it is a light abrasive but safe to use and better than using stuff like comet or whatever...honestly though, that's about as 'green' as I get, I'm sorry to say.....well a little sorry anyway. On the plus side we do recycle all our plastics and cans and such and living over here, we have to bring reusable bags to the grocery store, they don't give a hundred plastic sacks at each visit here like they do at Walmart! :o)

Well...I've been "green" before the word became popular. If you educate a bit on what the ingredients are and what harm they do that are in all of the conventional products, then you realize how terrible they can be to our indoor environments, as well as the outdoors. There are easy and cheap alternatives. So, I have made changes for our family where I can. When the price becomes too steep for our budget, then I must make a choice at that point. But cleaning products are much less expensive when you just use baking soda, vinegar and a scrub pad! If you don't like that combo. there are others to use, which smell better. But the above kills germs, is an excellent scrub for sinks, toilets, tubs, etc. and it is very Very cheap. Just light a scented candle afterward :) I guess I could also go into how bad scented candles are that have lead in the wick and all...but I'll spare you. I guess the point is, that back-to-basics is better for people, animals, underground water (that is contaminated by leaching chemicals) and the earth as a whole. It is our responsibility to make conscious descisions, because God put man in charge as the earth's caretaker. Christians should really be the forerunners of healthy alternatives. There are alternatives to cleaning supplies, laundry detergents, body products, etc.
Wow! I'm going to step off THAT soapbox (or should I say baking soda box) and let you all relax now. :) There is so much to think about on that topic that it would make your head spin. It does mine, but I just try to simplify and put the earth first.
