Morning vs Night

Are you a morning or a night person? How 'bout your husband? And your kids? How does that factor into your day-to-day routine? Or does it?

I am a morning person and my husband is a night person. I think my 4 yo is more of a night person and my 2 yo and 10 mo are morning people.

My husband and I have to be deliberate about "us time," and the majority of it usually takes place in the evening. But because I just don't function at night, we've learned that heavy-duty conversation cannot take place. And because he doesn't function well right away in the morning, I've learned to stop talking a mile-a-minute to share all my thoughts. If we know we have to have an in-depth conversation, we usually schedule it, so we both have time to think it through AND we can both have functioning brains.

My 2 yo only just started sleeping through the night and my 10 mo isn't quite there yet. So while I'd LOVE to get up early (don't beat me up) before everybody to have my own time, I just can't drag myself out of bed. AND...2 yo and 10 mo are usually awake and ready to run starting at 6:00, sometimes 5:45. (Yes, that's A.M.) Until I start sleeping through the night, there's no way I'm going to try to get up before then!

I'm starting to not HAVE TO nap, and all 3 kids take naps at the same time (usually). So that means about an hour (sometimes more!) in the middle of the day. I'm starting to use that time for my Bible study, a chance to just sit down, and some wrap-up cleaning tasks. That has helped me feel more on top of things during the day.

When it comes to the evenings, dinner prep usually takes the last bit of energy left in me. My husband is REALLY good about taking the kids outside to play or occupying their time somehow so that I can clean up dinner and breathe. He also does most of their bedtime routine. The evenings can be the most stressful time of the day for me, but my husband helps relieve a lot of that for me.

We are both morning people here. My husband gets up 2 hours before he leaves for work (at 4:30) to pray, read and exercise- yikes, I admire him! And I get up at 5:45 or so to exercise but if I get the chance I am HAPPY to go back to lay in bed afterwards and wait for the kids to get up- but that doesn't usually happen. I feel so much better when I am in this routine and it's important for me to get in this time of peace and quiet and exercise. By 9:30/10:00pm we are tired and ready to get to bed at the same time! We are lucky to have a similar routine in this house.

I am DEFINITELY a night person.....and my hubby is too. I don't think I could be a morning person to save my life! It doesn't seem to matter what time I go to sleep, and if it's at a "reasonable hour" or not, I still can't manage to get up early.

I wish that I was a morning person, as I think I'd get a lot more done. I'd love to say that I always start my day before the kids get up with a workout and devotions before breakfast, but that is rarely the case.

My kids are great sleepers, so it's hard to tell with them yet, but I'm thinking they will be night people too. They go to bed anywhere between 6:30-8:00 and all sleep until 7:30-8:30 am. If they're not up by 8:30 I usually wake them, otherwise it kinda puts a wrench in our schedule for the day.
